There is a variety of groups on either side:
Euzkadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA),
Basque Fatherland and Liberty,
is a violent group claiming to be in favor of Basque autonomy.
Founded in 1959 with aim of an independent Marxist Basque
homeland in the Spanish-French border area
(northern Spanish Provinces of Vizcaya, Guipuzcoa,
Alava, and Navarra; and south-west French Departments of
Labourd, Basse-Navarra, and Soule).
ETA has killed over 800 people and primarily targets
Spanish officials.
BVE, ATE, GAL, and other groups are labeled as ``pro-Spanish''
(or perhaps ``anti-Basque'' or at least ``anti-ETA'').
