Bounding the Global War on Terrorism,
by Jeffery Record for the U.S. Army's
Strategic Studies Institute,
makes the point that the U.S. "Global War
On Terror" — as opposed to a campaign
against al-Qaida — "lacks strategic
clarity, embraces unrealistic
objectives, and may not be sustainable
over the long haul."

Holy War, Inc.
by Peter I. Bergen concentrates on
al Qaida and Osama bin Laden.
An excellent book on the topic.
ISBN 0-74323-495-2.
-
Through Our Enemies' Eyes
and
Imperial Hubris
by Michael Scheuer,
the former head of the CIA's
Osama bin Ladin unit.
Densely written, but very good.
His repeated point is that bin Ladin is not
mysterious, but he has very clearly spelled
out exactly what he thinks multiple times.
As for the repeated claims by U.S. politicians
that the jihadists
"hate us for our freedoms",
Scheuer says
"It is the Gult royals — not
Osama bin Ladin — who hate us for
what we are, not what we do."
-
The New Jackals: Ramzi Yousef,
Osama bin Laden, and the Future of
Terrorism
is an excellent book on the very recent
history and future of terrorism.
Highly recommended for a look at where things
are going, which includes onto the Internet.
By Simon Reeve, 1999, Northeastern University
Press, ISBN 1-55553-407-4.
-
The Transformation of War has been
recommended to me as a valuable resource
for those interested in terrorism and the use
of professional military forces.

Fighting Terrorism: How Democracies Can
Defeat Domestic and International
Terrorists,
by Benjamin Netanyahu, is a short book on
contemporary terrorism and anti-terror
policies — obviously many will disagree
because of the author, but it does
present his views on the topic.
By Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli
Prime Minister, 1997, Noonday Press,
ISBN 0374524971.
-
Study of Revenge, Saddam's Unfinished War
against America
argues that Saddam Hussein planned the 1993
World Trade Center bombing.
The WTC bombing trial is carefully studied
and scrutinized, giving a very close view
of one terrorist operation.
The claim that Iraq is guilty for the 1993
bombing is quite convincing.
The book also deals with the US-Iraq relations
since 1991.
By Laurie Mylroie, 2000, American Enterprise
Institute, ISBN 0844741272.
