Aum Shinri Kyo (a.k.a. Aum Supreme Truth,
a.k.a. Aleph) --
Established in 1987,
this group dispersed sarin, a nerve gas,
in the Tokyo subway on 20 March 1995,
killing a dozen people and injuring up to 6,000.
They've been trying to build connections to Russia,
particularly in its Far East, and some of this
has involved attempts to purchase weapons
and military transport vehicles.
They have adopted a view that Armageddon would be
initiated by a USA-Japan World War III.
In January 2000 control passed from its founder
(now in prison) to Fumihiru Joyu, and the group
changed its name to Aleph.

Okinawa --
Some feel that Okinawa is definitely not a part of
Japan, it was aggressively invaded by Japan
and is still occupied:

Also see the
North Korea section,
as North Korea's use of the Internet seems to be
based on Japanese supporters.
